PM Modi AC Yojana 2025: Truth Behind the ‘Free 5-Star AC’ Claims

PM Modi AC Yojana

Many people are sharing news & videos on social media and have created articles on their websites about a government scheme called PM Modi AC Yojana 2025. In the news content, it is being claimed that under this free AC scheme, the Narendra Modi government is distributing free 5-star rated air conditioners (ACs) to families across the country. According to these news reports and videos, the government has already prepared 1.5 crore AC units for distribution. But is this news true?

Reality of PM Modi AC Yojana 2025

Press Information Bureau (PIB), which is the official government news agency and checks the accuracy of news, has clearly said that this claim is completely false. The government has not announced any such scheme to distribute free 5-star ACs to people.

What is the Actual Plan?

Although there is no free AC distribution, the central government is considering a different type of plan. This new idea aims to encourage people to replace their old, high-electricity consuming air conditioners with modern, energy-saving, 5-star AC models. But even this scheme is still under discussion, and no final announcement has been made yet.

Under this proposed plan, the government might offer some financial support, like discounts, rebates on electricity bills, or buyback offers, where you can exchange your old AC for a discount on a new one. However, this does not mean the government will distribute ACs for free.

Why is the Government Considering This Scheme?

The government wants to reduce electricity consumption in homes and save energy. Currently, old and inefficient ACs consume more electricity, putting pressure on India’s power supply and environment. By encouraging people to use energy-efficient 5-star ACs, the government aims to:

  • Reduce electricity bills for families.
  • Lower electricity demand during peak summer.
  • Help India achieve its climate targets.

Similar Schemes Already in Place

In Delhi, a similar scheme is already running. The power company BSES gives consumers up to 60% discount if they exchange their old, working AC for a new 5-star rated AC. However, even in this scheme, ACs are not given away free of cost. Consumers still have to pay, although at a reduced price.

However, BSES Delhi is currently running a similar scheme which offers up to 60% discount on purchase of new 5 star AC and giving the old AC unit in exchange of old AC.

Beware of Fake News!

Many false claims and misleading messages spread quickly on social media platforms like WhatsApp, Facebook, and YouTube. These fake messages often mislead people and create confusion. Always remember:

  • Check official government websites.
  • Do not share news unless you verify from trusted sources.
  • If you are unsure, look for official announcements or statements from the government.

Currently, the government has not announced any “PM Modi AC Yojana” offering free 5-star ACs. The official sources have clearly denied these claims. While a plan to encourage people to upgrade their old ACs might happen in the future, there will be no free distribution involved.

Be cautious about believing everything you see online. Rely only on official updates, and help prevent the spread of fake news.
