In a major digital transformation initiative, the Maharashtra government has announced that 500 government services will soon be accessible through WhatsApp. This move aims to simplify access to public services, making them available to citizens across the state, including rural areas.
The decision was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Meta (WhatsApp’s parent company) and the Maharashtra State IT Department during the Mumbai Tech Week event, inaugurated by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
With WhatsApp being one of the most widely used communication platforms in India, this initiative will make it easier for citizens to avail government services, register complaints, check status updates, and receive notifications, all from their mobile phones.
